Traditional Farmhouse: East of England.
A renovation and refurbishment project working in close conjunction with the architect and client to unpick a jumble of awkward spaces and levels to create a home to cosily suit a single person, whilst being able to cope with family members and guests at weekends and school holidays. Judicious planning was required to reproportion bedrooms and add bathrooms, where walls, for example, were moved a few centimetres to accommodate two beds instead of one, contributing to the success of the project.
Most of the client’s existing furniture was incorporated, with only one major addition of an expanding circular dining table commissoned to comfortably fit the central dining hall. Also many of their soft furnishings were reused and hard finishes, colour schemes and window treatments were specified to suit. With the countryside and its pursuits on the doorstep, coat and boot storage, utility room and separate laundry were essential. Again, these were reclaimed from an assortment of rooms on several levels at the initial planning stage.
